Woodland Park Zoo
The Woodland Park Zoo is located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood in north Seattle, Washington.
The massive zoo covers 92 acres of land and is home to over 1,000 animals. Visitors can expect to see a huge variety of domestic and exotic animals including:
- Over 50 Mammals from the Arctic Fox to the Zebra
- 74 different bird types on exhibit
- 58 different types of reptiles and amphibians such as, Chinese crocodile lizard, Mexican moccasin and Rhinoceros iguanas
- Over 20 varieties of Invertebrates
Easy Directions and Maps
It would be easy to get turned around and overwhelmed in a space this big but the amazing staff there has thought of everything.
The zoo offers many easy to read maps with directions to help navigate the large area. Each guide is available in large print with easy to follow step by step directions to all of the wonderful places Woodland Park Zoo has to offer.

The one hour tour for those who want to see a little bit of everything
Hand Carved Carousel
The zoo offers a hand carved and beautifully painted carousel that was built in 1918. This classic carousel is a perfect place for a party. There are two rooms that can be reserved for birthday parties that include rides on the carousel for up to 15 guests.
In early 2011, Seattle City Light installed solar panels to help power the carousel in an effort to support the zoo’s efforts in conservation.
Zoo Doo
Seattleites love Zoo Doo!
The Woodland Park Zoo holds a lottery in the fall every year and the winner gets to purchase the highly desired exotic animal poo. This unique fertilizer is a landscapers dream but each winner is limited to one truckload.

Fun For The Kids
Zoomazium is a fun play area for kids ages 2-8. There are play structures designed like mountains and trees to climb on, special performances, places to explore and different animals to meet.
The zoo also offers an animal contact area loaded with farm animals. Visitors are allowed to pet the sheep and goats during the summer months.
Concerts and Tastings
The Woodland Park Zoo hosts many different kinds of outdoor musical concerts throughout the summer months, called Zoo Tunes.
The zoo is also a beautiful venue for wine tastings and beer tastings with samples from over 25 different winery’s and breweries.
Camps and Classes
Woodland Park Zoo offers a variety of camps and classes to entertain and educate all animal lovers. A few of the opportunities include:
- Day camps and school vacation camps for kids
- Summer camps for kids and teens
- School outings
- Different interest classes for all ages from pre-school to adult
The zoo also hosts over-night adventures for kids and adults to solve mysteries and learn how scientists investigate animal behaviors in the dark.
Woodland Park Zoo offers volunteer opportunities for adults and teens who are interested in learning about and working with animals.

With all the amazing animals and scenery to enjoy, a trip to the zoo can be an all-day adventure. The animals aren’t the only ones who have feeding times so there are many delicious options for humans too.
Woodland Park Zoo offers strategically placed snack carts located throughout the grounds, a chowder house and The Rain Forest Food Pavilion.
